INTEGRATED ACADEMICS THROUGH ARTS PROGRAM K-12

JLSA recognizes students need an individualized approach towards education. Grades K-3 have workbooks created for them individually and participate in small group learning as well. Morning academics for grades 4-12 focus on individualized math & an intensive Language Arts & Humanities course.

All grades partake in afternoon courses consisting of: Science, Civics & Geography, Environmental Science/Outdoor Education, Engineering & Physics through Legos, Art, Music, Yoga, Photography, Theater, and Projects. Specials such as horticulture and soap making are also included during the year. All students participate in an entrepreneurial venture and share in running a business.

Our curriculum is integrated. For example, when studying European History in the morning, students will focus on the Medieval period in Art, theater will incorporate Shakespeare, and music will explore the 18th-21st centuries in Europe. This enables students to learn in a multi sensory way. We teach reading skills specifically, focusing on reading for information as well as reading fiction throughout morning and afternoon courses. Technology and research are also incorporated accordingly in this approach to curriculum.

In addition, the Horizons ® students participate in Entrepreneurial Ventures, Home Economics, and learn the Spanish language & culture. Students are eligible for College/High School credit courses or vocational opportunities as well.
