The Theater program at Jordan Lake School of the Arts includes efforts on an group as well as an individual basis. The elements of the program include:
PLAYWRITING
The students collaborate on play ideas which will include roles for each student, building on teamwork and group dynamic skills. Some of the Level 2 and Level 3 students then write dialog to stretch their language skills. All students provide input into stage direction for the performance piece.
SET BUILDING
To incorporate physical activity and life skills, our students work to bring the theater pieces to life. Be it as simple as determining props for a more traditional stage work or building the large puppet show theater, each student gets a role and can see the physical manifestation of their efforts, which provides a great sense of accomplishment and belonging.
ACTING
Individual emotional expression and social skills are developed as each student portays their role in the performance piece created by the group.
