Q.  What grades are you currently enrolling?

A.   We are currently enrolling grades K - 12. We are including a high school program with college credit and vocational training for students.  The maximum student to teacher ratio at JLSA is 5:1.

Q.  What are the opportunities for visiting the school?
A.  JLSA requires a school visit by the parents at the very beginning of the admissions process.  This can be done by attendance at one of our Open Houses or by scheduling a private visit.  Contact the school at (919) 378-9440 to schedule a visit.  After the initial visit to the school, there will also be a “trial” visit lasting several days where the prospective  student will attend JLSA to see if the school and child are a good fit.

Q.  How do you make your admissions decisions?
A.  Each prospective student’s application, student information form, transcripts, IEPs, and professional evaluations will be reviewed by a committee of teachers and administrators.  No formalized testing is performed by JLSA during the admissions process. A variety of factors are used in consideration of admissions, but perhaps none as important as the feedback and performance during the several day “try-outs” each prospective student is required to perform. Each application is considered individually with family and previous teachers’ input.

Jordan Lake School of the Arts accepts students whose educational needs can best be met in our setting.  It is our goal that the staff and families composing the community will mirror the diversity of the community in which we live.  Acceptance to the school is in no way based on race, religion, gender, handicapping conditions, or economic status.  We welcome families in all their diversity.

Q.  Once your child is a JLSA student, do you have to re-apply each year?
A.
No.  Applications are not required each year.  There is, however, a review at the end of the school year (June of each calendar year), at which time JLSA teachers and administrators evaluate the progress and participation of each student to determine if a contract for enrollment will be offered for the following school year.
